Reha to the Rescue
‘Reha to the Rescue’ (2016) was my first ever picture book, and I completed it for Think Equal. It was written by Deshan Tennekoon and is a story about a young girl overcoming her fears to help a friend in need. It is currently being used in reception level curriculum and helps children with the following:
• Recognise various emotions
• Demonstrate various ways these emotions can be displayed (face, body etc)
• Understand that all creatures are important and can be cared for in safe ways

This was my first venture into character design, composition, storyboarding, colour palettes, lighting etc. in the context of a picture book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I inked the images by hand and then added colour in Adobe Illustrator for vibrant blocks of purple. I especially enjoyed how much drama the lighting added to the story.
