This independent fundraiser was an idea I had when trying to devise a way of volunteering at local animal rescues in a meaningful way. Since I work full time and do freelance on top of it, physically going to the organisations was not an option. I was also not sure I would be able to handle rescue operations on an emotional level, because from what I’ve heard it’s pretty brutal. I later found that pet portraits were quite popular with international illustrators I followed, so I thought of giving that a go. ‘Pet Paw-traits’ ran for about a week, and it took me a lot longer to get through all the commissions. We raised a good amount - about 5 times my usual monthly donation - and I split it between two welfare groups I trust.
