Kukur Tihar is the second of Tihar’s five days of festivities in Nepal. It’s a day dedicated to dogs’ relationship with humans, where owned dogs, working dogs and community dogs are bedecked with garlands of marigold, tilaka lovingly adorned on their big ol’ fuzzy foreheads. They are fed and worshipped as the people thank them for being awesome. Okay so it’s a lot deeper than that but I just really wanted to draw my dog Twinky wearing a flower garland. It’s said that a dog will follow you on your final journey when you die. When the time comes for me, even though I’m not Hindu, I sure hope it’s her.
